Sara Monteiro is an African/Cape Verdean/African American multifaceted professional who has worked in an in Educational and Non-Profit fields for the last 15 years. A proud Providence Native, she arises from a strong and civically engaged Cape Verdean family. She is a business owner and consultant who specializes in cross cultural competency, social emotional learning and project management. As a mother of two, she is passionate about creating and supporting fruitful programs for inner city youth.

She is a URI alum with a background in African American Studies & Human Development, who currently serves as Co-Chair to URI’s Alumni of Color Network. She earned her master’s in education from the College of Saint Rose. In 2019, Sara co-founded Distant.Relatives LLC. In 2021, Sara launched her own poetry series called OUTSPOKEN, a safe space for artists to speak power to truth. She strongly believes, Truth Matters, Words Matter and Sharing Matters.
