Yvorn (wy-vern) “Doc” Aswad is a pediatrician, psychiatrist, activist and aspiring author. He credits growing up in South Central Los Angeles as part of a large family for giving him his passion for serving the medically underserved. His work centers on youth violence prevention, caring for those who are transitioning from the criminal-legal system, and restructuring emergency mental health access to feel more therapeutic. Doc received his bachelor’s from Stanford University and his MD from the Charles Drew/UCLA Medical Education Program. He is currently in residency at Brown University in the Pediatrics, Psychiatry, and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry combined program. He also spends his time writing science-fiction/fantasy short stories as well as creative nonfiction about the current medical system. When not working, he is a clumsy cyclist and the best amateur vegan chef you’ll ever know.
